Santa Claus is Watching You! (He's everywhere, he's everywhere)!

Don't you just love this picture!! I will let you insert your caption here... She is mid-tantrum in this picture, but more on that later. So Christmas in the Guest house is full swing and I have brought my "A Game" this year. Christmas cards were mailed the first week in December, and all the gifts have been bought and wrapped as of last week. I also co-chaired the Holiday committee for Athens Area Cancer Auxiliary. We as an organization donated money to provide a Thanksgiving meal for 2 families in need with cancer patients currently in treatment as well as donated gifts for 2 families for Christmas. This has always been one of my favorite things the Auxiliary does and last year I had the bright idea to co-chair the committee in charge of gathering donations and distributing them to the families. I absolutely enjoyed it and would not trade the experience for the world, but that on top of our Christmas and families has made for a hectic December.

So aside from running around what have we been up to? Well first is the Watkinsville Christmas parade. Dutch was in charge of the float for LAD this year and he also brought his "A Game." Their first meeting was in July! Dutch does not do anything unless he is in 110% and this was no exception. The float was massive, but looked like a Winter Wonderland. LAD received the prize for Adult Float, Best Use of Theme. We could not have been happier! Sarah Beth of course decided to party hard the night before and wake up early the day of the parade so she was in a "wonderful mood" but once we got going, she had a great time. She even got into reaching in the bucket and dropping candy out for the kids on the street. Sarah Beth and I then hiked 10 miles (not really but it felt like it - it was probaby 2 or 3 miles) back to LAD to wait on Dutch to come back from looping the float around town. She has gotten so big!!

Sarah Beth and I with Cayden and Ashley Gunter throwing out candy on the float.

Last weekend Aunt Teensy came to visit! She finshed the semester at FSU last week and decided to show up and visit for the weekend. I do not know who was more excited, Sarah Beth or me! Melissa and I had a girls night Friday night with dinner at Casa Mia and cheesecake at the Last Resort. This was absolutely amazing! Meanwhile Dutch and Sarah Beth had daddy / daughter time at the Varsity which I am sure they enjoyed. Saturday Melissa babysat so Dutch and I could go to the LAD Christmas party, which was fun as always and Sunday we all went to church and saw Santa at the Country Club. The above picture sums up Sarah Beth's opinion. She screamed the minute we put her on his lap. Santa suggested I sit on his lap with her so she wouldn't notice, but it was too late, the tantrum had already started. We did get a decent picture eventually. She lips make you think she is smiling, but her eyes tell you she definately is not!! Sarah Beth did watch the puppets with Daddy after Santa and that she LOVED!!

Best picture we got...

So here we are, the week of Christmas and everything is ready!! Hope you have a very blessed Christmas and I hope you enjoyed the pictures!!

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving

It is my absolute favorite time of the year!!! The Holidays! I am actually sitting here blogging listending to my Pandora Christmas station and even though I shouldn't like the cold rainy weather today, it puts me in the spirit. We have decorated the whole house. I am an absolute Christmas nut and we have been slowly collecting decorations for the house but this year, Dutch surprised me with outside lights!! I could not be more excited and would put even more out if he would let me (but as much as I am a goober for Christmas we can't be tacky). I made wreaths for the windows this year and Dutch surprised me with white lights and spotlights. So as for Christmas, we have the house decorated, cards mailed and half of the gifts bought and wrapped (thanks to Mother's Morning Out)! I have also been DVRing classic Christmas movies to watch as a family with Sarah Beth, we currently have the original Grinch, It's a Wonderful Life and Charlie Brown Christmas. Yes, you can pray for Dutch, I know he needs it with me during Christmas! We are ready! But that is not really what this blog is about, this blog is about Thanksgiving!

We spent Thanksgiving in Atlanta visiting the Guest family at Dutch's Aunt June's house followed by a nice visit to Grandy's new apartment! Thanksgiving with the Guest was as always fun. Dutch has more female cousins than I can count and he is the oldest (with only 1 male cousin next in line). So it is never boring! Sarah Beth played ALL afternoon followed by only eating bread. Yes, I know but she is now a toddler and has VERY picky moments when I just glad to see her eat something. Thanksgiving was one of those days. She always evens it out though. For example, last night she wouldn't eat anything but green beans. It was perfect weather and a great visit. We traveled down the road after lunch to Grandy's new apartment and visited with her. She gave Sarah Beth her first "weeble." This was a jeep to stack shapes and people on. Honestly, Sarah Beth has not put it down since. Grandy also gave us a Mexico Beach ornament. This was very special. I grew up going to Mexico Beach since middle school and for whatever reason have NEVER gotten an ornament. That gift was a welcomed addition to the tree! We had fun playing at Grandy's and headed home. Sarah Beth only napped about 30 minutes that day, but she was pleasant all day so we could not have been happier! The above picture of us was taken at the Guest family Thanksgiving.

Friday after lunch, we packed up and headed to Lake Blackshear for Thanksgiving with my family. We ate at Daphne's Friday night which was great! I can always eat seafood! Sarah Beth devoured her fruit cup until Dutch decided to switch out a cherry with a tomato. She hated that and would not touch anything but crackers after that. I guess she was worried we would slip her something else! We spent Saturday watching football on the dock and grilling with Mema (Papa George's mom) and my Aunt Frieda, Uncle William and their families. It was great spending time with them! Dad's family living in Waycross makes it hard to see them! We headed back home Sunday with a win over Georgia Tech and put up decorations (time was ticking in my head). We also came home with my childhood rocking chair and Sarah Beth's other new favorite toy!

Last week Sarah Beth got her first haircut by Patsy. Patsy cuts Dutch's hair and Sarah Beth makes her the 4th generation of Guest family that Patsy has cut. She cut Dutch's grandfather, Dutch's father, Dutch and his sisters when they were little and now Sarah Beth. Patsy was so patient and we finally got rid of the mullet that was growing! Cutting her hair also made it look much thicker!

So here we are, counting down to Christmas and cannot wait!

Happy Holidays!

Monster Mash Part Deux

Once again a belated post. But I know those of you who do follow us would love to hear and see about Sarah Beth's first official Halloween. Last year Sarah Beth was a ladybug. Being 3 months old at the time shre did absolutely no trick or treating. We just handed out candy all night and in our neighborhood, that is A LOT of candy. However, this year was different.

We dressed Sarah Beth up as Piglet this year. She LOVES Whinnie the Pooh. We took her to eat Mexican (my favorite food!) and then we were off to Grandaddy and Nana's house. Sarah Beth did so well in her costume. Much to my surprise she even enjoyed the full head piece. Sarah Beth loved trick or treating as well. She never figured out she was getting candy, but she loved the idea of putting out her new jack o'lantern bucket and getting something in it. Once we got LOTS of candy from Grandaddy she went straight inside to pull everything out of her bucket, shake it and put it back in the bucket. She loved this!! She even got mad at Grandaddy for giving other tick or treater's candy and not giving her another handful. Don't worry though... Grandaddy ALWAYS gave her another handful. We aren't spoiled at all are we??

Grandaddy's house was followed by Uncle Jud and Aunt Paula's and then Aunt Lala's house. Sarah Beth for whatever reason does not like Uncle Jud. It is actually pretty funny. But once again she loved getting treats!! Aunt Lala's house was filled with Lala and roomates who LOVE SB and LOVED her costume. She got cookies at this house and when we cut her off of cookies, she began to just take them from Lala's roomate's hand. Once again - not spoiled. SB then went to bed and slept like the baby she is all night long.

Of course I am including pictures with this one, who does not want to see an adorable piglet!! But I am also including some new tailgating pictures of Dutch and myself (thanks to Grandy for being an amazing babysitter this fall) and of Dutch and the guys from the New Mexico State game also known as the game before the game of the century (LSU-AL) which was followed by burgers and a game for the guys and girls.

Enjoy the pics!

Monster Mash

We have had a busy couple of weeks!! Sarah Beth is 15 months old so first and foremost, her new "vitals." She weighs 21 lb and is 32 inches long. She is doing very well. She has too many teeth to count and is cutting some molars so as you can imagine this has been a happy household! She is officially off a bottle as of this past weekend and we are working on cutting it down to 1 nap a day. This is going to be a work in progress I can tell! Time seems to just fly by!! She can now also say nite nite, boo (book), joo (juice) and bye bye with a wave. She has gotten good at blowing kisses which is great because she doesn't give out kisses too much. She has just learned her prayer hands but will only do them at night during prayer time. She runs and climbs and hides ALL the time. Her favorite game is chase so Dutch and I are up ALL the time with her now. The 3 of us play chase almost every night. I would not trade it for the world! She still makes "ugly" (mean) faces at people (including Dutch and I) from time to time and has just started with the occasional tantrum. She has learned to go "wet noodle" on us when we are trying to get her to walk somewhere she doesn't want to. Most recently she did it at the front door of a deli after church because she wasn't ready to leave. When I scooped her up she grinned from ear to ear! Last but not least, this character of a child now thinks when she climbs and I say no that it is a game. She will put one foot up on something wait for me to look and when I say no, she laughs and begins a slow climb laughing the whole way until I end up yanking her off of whatever she is climbing. She also likes to climb into my rocking chair in her room with books and pretend to read in it. 9 times out of 10, she will have the book upside down. This is precious!

Sarah Beth and I went to Tifton 2 weeks ago to visit Mimi and Papa George while Dutch stayed in Watkinsville to work. I had been promising to do this for a while and just got around to it. We had lunch with mom's friends the Doozies and breakfast with Dad's breakfast group. Both of which were at the bakery, (which is amazing if you are ever in Tifton for anything!)We also visited the pumpkin patch at the Agrirama. The above picture is of Sarah Beth playing peek a boo through a pupkin cut out at the patch. We also walked her through the corn maze. She had a ball!!! She could not decide which pumpkin to take home, so naturally Papa George bought both pumpkins she liked! It is amazing how much things change when a grandchild is in the picture!

We came home in time to take Sarah Beth to the fall festival. Grandaddy, Nana and Aunt Manda walked her around while Dutch and I walked around shopping and eating just the two of us. It has been so long since I have had a funnel cake. Dutch and I devoured it. I did give Sarah Beth a tiny bite as well. What is not to love about fried dough and powdered sugar?

We let Sarah Beth eat supper with Grandaddy and Nana this past week as well so Dutch and I could go out on a date. We did not think on a Monday night there would be much and were looking forward to eating in downtown Athens since we hardly ever go anymore. Of course the whole UGA greek system was downtown which led to us eating at Buffalo's on Alp's Rd after an hour of cruising downtown for parking. Dutch and I got a lot of bonding time in the car and laughed about our luck all night.

Grandy spent the day yesterday with Sarah Beth and we made our first pot of chilli for the cold season. We have had lots of grandparents time this past month and we are looking forward to watching Georgia beat Florida from the comfort of our couch this weeekend! Go Dawgs! Halloween pictures to come!!

From the hills of Georgia's northland...

We are well into football season!!! So this will be a catch me up on all the previous football games with an added recipe bonus. September flew by, maybe because all the games were at home for the most part in September. We are finally getting a break. The next home game will not be until November. That being said thanks to the wonderful grandparents I did not miss a game in September. Why? Because Grandy and Mimi was gracious enough to give up a couple of Saturdays to babysit!!!! That being said, Sarah Beth has also had ALOT of grandparent time, which also means alot of detoxing this past month! Mimi gave up the South Carolina game (which we lost of course...) so Dutch and I was able to tailgate for a 3:30 game before all the 12:00 games arrived. South Carolina was a lot of fun!!

We then decided to take Sarah Beth to the Coastal Carolina game! This was not her first tailgate, but was her first game. She was a champ as she always is! She let us stay until halftime, which for a 1 yr old is a feat in itself. We took her down on the field at halftime which she loved. Funny thing, she could care less about the band. All she saw was a massive green patch to run around on. Dutch and I had our hands full keeping her on the sidelines! Dutch and I took her back to the tailgate to leave and she ran around there for a little while as well. You would think she would have slept all afternoon but no, she just powered on through after a 30 minute cat nap in the car. We all really enjoyed it though! She even got to see Aunt Lala and Caroline. She however has started making "ugly" faces at people. Not just people she doesn't know. She even makes them at us if she is mad. Aunt Teensy says it looks like a Dutch face. Either way I now spend most of my time in public apologizing for her faces and making up excuses like "oh she's tired." I am hoping this is a phase. This game was no exception!

Dutch took a father - son trip to the Ole Miss game, which as always he had a ball! Sarah Beth of course came down with a cold / bug about 8 hrs after he left. This left me having to clean her nose and take care of her all day Saturday during the game. Nana, Aunt Manda and Morgan came over to watch the game (Morgan is in college and also washed clothes!) This was a huge help because I was able to watch the game a little bit with a sick baby!

Grandy showed up the next week to babysit for the Miss St. game. Sarah Beth now owns 2 pairs of squeaky shoes which she loves and even wants to wear them around the house. I forgot to warn Grandy about the noise which made Grandy laugh when SB suprised her with the shoes. They had a lot of fun playing while Dutch and I had an adult play date with Will and Bri Shelton. Will is a high school football coach so seeing them in the fall is hard to manage. Luckily, it was his off weekend! They have a little boy born last spring, so this was their first UGA game since he was born! We all had a great time and UGA won that game so that made it even better.

Last weekend was our first weekend relaxing in what seems like months. So we enjoyed a wonderful party Friday night and relaxed on the porch watching the Tenn game Saturday night with Dutch's good friend Adam. We got out the heat lamp Papa George gave Dutch for christmas for the first time and was able to watch the whole game outside!!! Dutch made his "world famous" ribs (courtesy of Grandaddy) and we had a GREAT evening (which included a dance off on the Xbox dance central).

This past week Sarah Beth and I visited Tifton, more details on that in the next blog. Now, we are getting ready for the Oconee County fall festival today and the Vandy game tonight. We are also keeping the nursery for the first time tomorrow. We meaning Dutch and I together, so I am sure there will be a story or two from that as well. I am also attaching a new recipe since it has been a while! This is a hot wing dip which has become a staple at tailgates! Enjoy the football pictures!

HOT WING DIP
2 packages of cream cheese
2 - 10 oz cans of chicken
1 cup ranch
1 cup Franks Buffalo Sauce
2 cups shredded cheese (I use colby jack)
Preheat oven to 350
Bring cream cheese to room temp.
Mix cream cheese, chicken, ranch and sauce.
Pour in casserole dish and cover with shredded cheese.
Cover and bake 15 min
Remove cover and bake another 10 min
I serve with tortilla chips!

School's Back Forever!

Fall is finally here and I don't think we could be more excited. We are done with our big travels. I thought football season would slow us down, but silly me.... it just added to everything else. The next weekend following the beach, Dutch and I went to Atlanta to the Poultry Association's Night of Knights and got to listen to Clint Black, with this south Georgia girl was very excited about. Sarah Beth came back from the beach walking so she kept Aunt Lala very busy babysitting. We had a great night!

Sarah Beth started school the very next week. The picture above is of her first day redo day. By school I mean Mother's Morning Out at Faith Presbyterian in Watkinsville, but I tell her it is school. She went to open house and cried when we left she had so much fun playing. I enjoyed watching her interact! We discovered a rash Wednesday night that covered her body so she was unable to go to the first actual day. Luckily after panicked phone calls to the dr, we found out it was rosacia and once the rash was visible she was no longer contagious. You would have never even known she was sick if it wasn't for the rash and it was gone within 2 days. The following week, we had a "first day redo" as I called it.

The first week, she LOVED MMO and thought it was a party. Unfortunately, by week 2 the gig was up. She really is very smart. She had 2 weeks of crying when I dropped her off and some fussiness while she was there. But now she is getting adjusted and acting like she was the first week. She no longer cries and I get great reports when I pick her up. She is always playing when I get there so she seems to really enjoy it!

Our last fall kickoff event was the UGA - Boise St. game! Grandy came to stay with SB Saturday morning of labor day weekend and Dutch and I left for Atlanta to go to the game with Adam Graham and his wife Becca and spend the night in Atlanta at the Omni. This was only the second time we have left her overnight, but she was great! Adam and Dutch were in each other's wedding. We had a blast tailgating next to the dome. Dutch's truck got "Biebered." Definition: Someone put a sticker of Justin Bieber's face on the back of Dutch's truck. We don't have a clue who did it. The sticker came off and everyone in the Omni parking lot had a huge laugh! But the dawgs lost. Great afternoon, terrible night. However, Sunday I introduced Dutch to Nona, a semi new cajun restaurant in Athens, for brunch and it is now on his list of favorites. I always have a sweet spot for beignets! We had not gone out for brunch in a while so that was nice too!

All in all, fall started with a bang!

Beach Baby Part Deux

A month after Ponte Vedra, we packed up again with Grandy in tow for Mexico Beach. Mimi, Papa George and Aunt Teensy met us down there half way through the week. So we had lots of help the entire trip which was wonderful!!!

We stopped in Bainbridge to visit Joycie which was as always a hoot! She took us out to eat at one of the many buffets in Bainbridge. Alec and Doreen met us which was really nice since we don't see them that often and SB loved eating whatever Joycie fed her.

Dutch took his tailgating tent so had plenty of room for SB to play!! She got use to the sand after a couple of face plants from trying to walk and eventually got to enjoy the beach. Grandy kept her one night for Dutch and I to have a date to Panama City where we ate at my favorite restaurant (which Dutch has come to LOVE as well)... Capt. Anderson's. We love that restaurant so much we actually ended up eating there twice! Our date also included putt putt! Dutch of course won, but I gave him a run for his money (with a couple of retries of course). We were eventually able to get SB in the water and after 20 minutes of crying she enjoyed it. She fed the birds with Grandy and with Papa George and even came home with a new word...bird! She also came home walking! All in all, it was a great trip. Enjoy the pictures. Whew, we are now caught up with the summer and on to the fall. Next blog.... Boise St Game and Sarah Beth's mothers morning out experiences and hopefully a new recipe!! Enjoy the pics!

Much Love, Mary Beth

The minivan at 9:00 pm the night before. Once again we packed up at night and left at 6:00am. We were in Bainbridge by 10:30!! So glad we got a minivan now!\

Lunch with Joycie. She scooted to the chair in her room and insisted she hold SB AS SOON as we got there so SB is still in her pjs from being put in the car at 6:00.

Beach Baby

This a a blog dedicated to reminiscing on the first beach trip of the summer, since I am behind. But, I feel like I am catching up - maybe so!!! We took a trip to Ponte Vedra Beach, FL shortly following SB's birthday. Dutch's dad, stepmom and sisters went as well. We piled up the minivan and left at 6:00 am to head down. (Keep in mind this means we woke up at 5 to get dressed and ready). All of our stuff was packed the night before. After some confusions as to which Golden Pantry we were meeting the rest of the family, the convoy was off!

We got to the beach just in time for lunch, ate and hit the pool. The pool was PACKED!!! It has a slide which I know SB will love in the future, but she did not care to much for the splashing. We went to the rooms afterwards and got ready to eat at Barbara Jean's. I have never been there (and neither had SB). The pumpkin bread MIGHT have been the best part of Sarah Beth's trip.

Once we were settled, we spent the rest of the week on the beach, eating seafood and playing golf / working (Dutch played golf and worked as it was a business trip). Sarah Beth LOVED being outside but HATED the sand. I have mentioned before that she is a girly girl and this was no exception. She did better with the hard sand since it was not as gritty but hated the water. The only picture we got of her in the sand was the above picture. Taken after Dutch got her to allow us to bury her legs.

The last night we ate at a dinner for the convention. This might have been SB's second favorite part of the trip. Awards were given during dinner and we clapped for each individual. SB who LOVES to clap had the best time cheering on the awardees and even started screaming for them. It didn't help that her grandaddy was on the stage giving out awards. She had a BALL!

After 5 days we packed up and headed back...AFTER a stop in Savannah to visit our friend Abbey. We had a great lunch with her and made it home. It took a week to "detox" SB from all of the attention she got from her aunts and grandparents!

Hope you enjoyed the post and get ready for the next blog coming soon: Beach Baby part Deux!

Baby's A Year Older

So here we are at the end of August, and here it is.... Sarah Beth's birthday blog. Her birthday was July 9, 2011. At 12 months, she weighed 21 3/4 lb and was 33 inches long. This makes her a tall one year old. She says mama, dada, bye bye, and uh oh. She can also put her hands on her head and say oh no! She took her first step 2 days before her birthday! Which was huge!!! She eats cereal and 3 oz whole milk for breakfast, followed by a snack and juice / water around 10:30. She goes down for a nap until lunch. For lunch she eats baby food, 4 oz milk and a bite of what we eat. She has another snack and drink around 3:30 and goes down for a nap until about 5. At 5, she has another baby food, 4 oz milk and some of our food. She goes down about 8ish for bed with another 4 oz bottle. She has not met any adult food or baby food she has not liked. She will even eat what I don't on my plate! I believe that is all of her milestones. Now for the pics and details of the party.

We had the party at our house, burgers and hot dogs for lunch. Dutch spent all morning putting up tents and a huge fan in the back yard, while I decorated the inside of the house. We invited all family. Aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents etc. We were even able to have both of her great grandmothers there, which was a feat in itself! SB is the first grandbaby for everyone... so that made her the only child at her party. No worries though, she got lots of attention and Dutch and I hardly saw her. She had an adorable peach smocked dress with cupcakes with matching bow (courtesy of a friend of mine from college!)It was definately HOT! Sarah Beth had her own cake... which she LOVED to eat but could care less about getting her hands in it. In fact she hated putting her hands in it. She cannot stand to be dirty and is such a girly girl it cracks Dutch and I up. I decided to do 1/2 the cake all chocolate and 1/2 all vanilla so people could have a choice. That was a huge hit. We washed it all down with blue bell icecream so it could not have been better! Sarah Beth got LOTS of presents and a huge variety at that! By the time we were done opening gifts it was close to 4 and she PASSED out in her crib. We could have asked for a better party!!! Now for the best part... the pictures!

Happy Birthday America

So I am not the best photographer in the world but I am learning. This was the best firework shot I had. WOW!! It has been a month since my last post!! Do not worry, I will not fit the entire month of August in one blog, I will break it up by events. We have been so busy this month!!! So we will start off with the beginning of the month! 4th of July!!!

We spent this holiday down at Lake Blackshear in South Georgia. I grew up on this lake and Dutch has come to love it as much as I have! The best part of this trip is that after 3 years, my parents have finally found the boat they have been looking for and we got to take our first boat trip on Papa George's boat! All in all, Sarah Beth likes to ride but gets hot and irritated fast when we stop. Her life vest is VERY hot!! She also got to see her boyfriend James!!! Lauren and Eddie Fresh stopped by to visit which always makes me happy! James is a very good signer, Sarah Beth can't sign a word. When I told her no, James would come up and tell her no through sign language. It was the funniest thing to watch!! I can now officially say that Lauren is pregant again so that means yea for another playmate for Sarah Beth!! We spent 3 nights down there which also meant we got to go out to eat. We seldom eat out at the lake because our schedule really only leaves us with one decent night. We tend to get handcut steaks or chicken from Salt Lick or Striplings and grill out. AMAZING for those of you who have not tried it. But, I LOVE seafood and we had a wonderful meal at the Olde Inn. The OLDE Inne is an amazing seafood restaurant owned by a family. Some of the family lives in FL and the other at the lake. The FL family catches fish all weeks and sends it up to the restaurant to serve, so it is always very fresh and always changing. Dutch's friend Joseph and his girlfriend Scarlett came up to watch fireworks with us Sunday night. Believe it or not, we had 2 nights of fireworks. The Knights, whose house is down from my parents on the lake put on a show each year that rivals any professional show I have seen. There are hundreds of boats on the lake watching them shoot the fireworks from their house. It is a sight to see!!! The picture was taken there. Joseph, Scarlett, my dad, the Jones', Dutch and myself watched an amazing show. Mom was nice enough to watch Sarah Beth since it was past her bedtime.

Monday we came back home went back and forth about the weather and decided to watch fireworks again at the Country Club with the Guest clan...this time with Sarah Beth. Chase and Ashley Gunter came with us and with a 8 month pregnant Ashley, we watched a great show!! Sarah Beth could care less about the fireworks and even began to doze off during the show, but have no fear... the child who LOVES to clap jumped up as soon as it was over to clap with excitement with everyone else!

I am planning on adding some more recipes that I have been testing once I get caught up on our summer escapades! Coming up next, the first birthday bash!!! Also, I am updating the blog so it will be going through some changes! Hope you are having a wonderful summer!!!Enjoy the pictures!

Much Love,
Mary Beth
